“Knowledge is knowing what to do. Wisdom is knowing how to do it.”
For a long time now we have been taking our farming soils for granted. The resulting degradation in UK soils is serious. Addressing this problem will require us to develop new soil wisdom – and it will take farmers and scientists working together.
This research project looks at how we can make this happen. It seeks to understand what it means to bring the knowledge of farmers and of scientists together to achieve soil wisdom.
The project is led by me, Dr. Anna Krzywoszynska from the Geography Department at the University of Sheffield. In the first stage of the project, I will study how farmers currently make scientific knowledge usable in their soil management. In the second stage, I will facilitate joint research between farmers and soil scientists. Please see the leaflet for more details.
The project is funded by the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship scheme.
